Makayla Freeman
Makayla started taking Taekwondo at the age of 5 years old at Premier Martial Arts, although the start of her training and passion for martial arts truly began when her Sensei, Richard Shaw, began teaching her at the age of 6. At this time, with his love of martial arts and teaching, Mr. Shaw really inspired her training and work ethic by introducing Makayla to competitions and opened her eyes to the endless opportunities that martial arts could provide her. Then Makayla’s training took off when Mr. Shaw introduced her to Trace Megellas at her 1st Bo staff seminar, where she became amazed with his performance and has not put the bo down since!
Makayla now competes all over the US in NASKA, NBL, TKO and AOK. Makayla is a well-rounded martial artist competing in weapons, creative and traditional forms as well as points sparring. With the teaching and guidance from Mr. Shaw and Trace Megellas, Makayla has won 8 State Titles and 1 World Title in her short career. Makayla is lucky enough to have two of the best teammates, and “brothers” in karate, Alex Garza and Kobe Shaw. With their motivation and inspiration, Makayla constantly strives to be better every day. With the support from her martial arts Family, Makayla hopes to open a school of her own when she gets older.
